Finally, it looks like Warner Premiere is going to get it right when it comes to bringing a fun DC Comics direct-to-video animated adventure to DC Comics fans.
As we reported a while back, the next DC Universe Animated feature to be released after Green Lantern: First Flight, which will be released next month, is “Superman/Batman: Public Enemies”, adapted from the story brought to comic book readers by writer Jeph Loeb and artist Ed McGuinness in the first story arc of the Superman/Batman ongoing comic book series. Check out this first trailer:
Though Loeb and McGuinness themselves are not involved in adapting their material for home video due to schedule conflicts, lots of familiar elements from the original story, from McGuinness’ signature renditions of the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight to the characters we get glimpses of the World’s Finest duo battling with, are present in the trailer. And something else to bolster hope for a quality feature: voice actor Kevin Conroy, who for many is THE voice actor for Batman, will be voicing Batman this time out as well. No word on casting for Superman, but we can hope they go after Tim Daly, who voiced Superman and Clark Kent in Superman – The Animated Series, or George Newbern, who lent his voice to Superman in the Justice League
series. And we can also certainly hope for Clancy Brown to voice Lex Luthor, as he did in the aforementioned Bruce Timm-produced DC Animated properties.
