PTG Episode 145 is brought to you by Slacker and the Man. If you’re not already a fan of the weekly hijinks that are a staple of Slacker and the Man, then it’s a good time to get on board. Costumer and Cosplayer Extraordinaire Ana Aesthetic will be on this week’s upcoming episode to report on last weekend’s DragonCon festivities in Atlanta, and she’ll be a frequent contributor to the program to report on future conventions and weigh in on matters of tremendous importance in the Geek Realm, matters such as how to date hot geek girls and … well, yeah, how to date hot geek girls. And if you’re already taken and you have your very own hot geek whatever-floats-your-boat, then listen to SaTM to hear The Man light up his co-hosts with a taser, because seriously, that’s always entertaining.

Just to follow up on our movie reviews in Episode 144, it looks like ONCE AGAIN I’ve shown that I cannot predict the weekend box office to save my life. During the episode I said something to the effect of “‘The American‘, while certainly beautifully shot, well acted, and carried by George Clooney’s star power, probably won’t draw enough audience to beat out ‘Machete‘.” Well, BoxOfficeMojo reported on Tuesday that not only did The American win the weekend with $16.7 million, but Machete’s take–$14.1 million–barely beat out last week’s number one movie, Takers, which made $13.5 million for Sony/Screen Gems. About the only thing I was right about was that Going the Distance, the romantic comedy about long distance dating starring Drew Barrymore and Justin Long that also opened last weekend, wouldn’t even come in third. It came in fifth, with $8.5 million. Hooray, action movies. Now I think I’m going to just stop making box office predictions, period, because it’s just getting embarrassing.

We start off this 90-minute edition of PTG by getting caught up with what’s been going on lately on Slacker and the Man, including more on Ana Aesthetic joining SaTM and their latest installment of “Deadliest Geek Warrior” featuring Wonder Woman vs. Ms. Marvel. Stu got us up to speed on upcoming product and events at Heroes Landing, and then we moved into a Flash TV Reviews segment featuring spotlights on the Season 4 finale of Burn Notice and Covert Affairs‘ most recent episode. We wrap up the episode with reviews of two Top Cow Productions comics from last week, Angelus #5 (of 6) (Marz, Sejic) and The Magdelena #3 (Marz, Blake). With Top Cow’s big crossover event Artifacts under way, and every major character in the Top Cow Universe being involved in Artifacts in some way, these are titles we at PTG will be paying lots of attention to over the next few months. Angelus, in particular, is meant to lead directly into the events of Artifacts, so best to get on board with it while you can find the issues in stores. Enjoy!
