Hour 2 of Prime Time Geek Episode 22 is brought to you by those two passes to Florida SuperCon on June 5-7th in Ft. Lauderdale that we’re still waiting for someone to claim! Those of you already planning on attending the show and hoping to meet Guest of Honor Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead, Army of Darkness), here’s a great opportunity to get free weekend passes–just download Hour 1 of this episode, listen to the Mad Mario Intro at the start of the episode, and name all the films from which material for the intro was taken. C’mon, for you movie geeks out there, this is EASY. Pick up the gauntlet, accept the challenge, and be the first to leave a comment on the episode and you win the passes!
In Hour 2 my special guest co-host Mad Mario and I tackle some of the feature film trailers we were treated to ahead of our showing of Terminator: Salvation, which included Sherlock Holmes (pictured above), Gamer, The Hangover, and Bruno. Curiously absent was any promotion of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, another of Warner Bros’ blockbuster films due later this summer. In fact, aside from posters I’ve seen hanging in theaters, I haven’t seen much of anything in terms of a marketing push for ol’ Harry’s latest cinematic adventure. I guess the marketing boys and girls at Warner have enough confidence in the franchise at this point that they won’t really start to push until July when the movie arrives. Maybe they’re right, but still, it would’ve been nice to see a full trailer on the big screen. The trailers we did catch were a mixed bag, to be certain.
This episode also features the debut of the all-new ‘Eat More Geek’ intro, which was not aired during the live broadcast, so all you loyal PTG’ers out there, please comment and tell us what you think. That intro leads into our experimentation with Faygo and Mountain Dew Voltage, which was, in a word, revolting. Having had time to reflect on the experience, I have to say that the Faygo was nothing to write home about in terms of revulsion, but the Mt. Dew … wow. That looks AND tastes like I imagined the Water of Life in the Dune series of novels–you know, the bile up-chucked from the gullets of the Sandworms?–must taste like. So all that bad flavor and no Muad’Dib superpowers. Sucks.
