PTG Episode 54 is brought to you by Dusk, the independent graphic novel by writer David Doub, who joined us for an interview during what should have been PTG Episode 53. Due to technical difficulties, we won’t be able to bring you that hour of PTG, but in the absence of the actual interview recording, we still wish to extend many thanks to David for taking the time to join us that night, and to recommend that you buy a copy of Dusk
through Amazon.com or Barnes&Noble.com. PTG will be reviewing Dusk on this upcoming week’s show, so expect to hear more about David Doub and his work in coming episodes.
We spent all of Episode 54 talking TV, but we didn’t get a chance to talk about two shows we plan to spent the Fall season spotlighting this year, Heroes and Smallville. As far as Heroes goes, we’re going to TRY to cover it for the whole season, but if its quality is as poor as the level it sunk to in the latter half of last season, then we may just quit on it in favor of some other show. Fringe is also on our radar, as are FlashForward, V, and Human Target, so there’s plenty out there for us to spend our time reviewing should Heroes take yet another nosedive. Smallville, on the other hand, I’m determined to see through to the bloody, painful end. One surprising thing that’s coming to light in this week leading up to the 9th Season premiere this Friday night: the critics seem to be liking what they see in the first episode, entitled “Savior.” Here’s a sampling of what’s been said on the web (thanks to the Superman Homepage for compiling these):
Damian Holbrook from TV Guide Magazine said, “Screened the first 2 eps of “Smallville” S9 last night. SUPERWOW! Strap in, fanboys and girls.”
TVGuide.com’s Natalie Abrams said, “Smallville is about to have its best season yet! Love it!”
Craig Byrne from KryptonSite.com writes, “Smallville feels, again, like what it’s supposed to be – a TV series about Superman.”
Stay tuned.
